Special Consensus, from Chicago, and appeared on three of their albums, one
of which was nominated for a Grammy Award. Marty will be found playing the

Graham Sones:
A thirty five year veteran of the five string, he’s a Scruggs
style picker that enjoys his craft and working on licks. Born in Rochester,
MN, he also has strong family ties in Des Moines, IA and the hills of
Arkansas. He grew up with the music and festivals on his mind and in his
heart. Music shop owner and fiddler, Bob Loy helped form Graham’s first band
that played some local festivals and gigs where he became used
to playing and singing on a stage. Since then his pickin’, playin’, singin’
experience just grew and included some equally fine pickers, players and
singers along the way. In 2001, he took a spot with Monroe Crossing and put
in thousands of miles and hundreds of shows in the three years that followed
showcasing at national festivals, concerts, and fairs performing all over
the Midwest. More recently he’s filled a spot or two with fine regional
bands such as DriveTime, the High 48’s, and now also Haywire. You might even
talk him into a lesson or two on the five. Tangled Roots is now his
bluegrass home and, in his own words, he is "honored to pick with these
guys, its some serious fun, and I hope to be a Tangled Roots member for some
time to come…did that just rhyme?"

Grammy Award winning mandolin player Mike Compton and teaches workshops in

which plays a large role in how he teaches mandolin. Picking up the banjo a
year after the mandolin, Mike has also been traveling around the Midwest
playing in the bluegrass group The New North String Band. Mike plays
Scruggs/Crowe style as well as melodic banjo. Mike makes his home between
Madison, Wisconsin and Minnetonka, Minnesota. |
